The snowmelt revealed a nice trail along the waterfront in Duluth. Here are some views along the trail:
A view of the lift bridge
A quiet spot to enjoy the lake
The range lights for the ship canal
We also got out to do a little biking at the Split Rock Lighthouse and Jay Cooke State Park
The split rock light - always a nice view!
A view of the north shore
The 'canyon' at Jay Cooke
Old railroad bridge which crosses over the canyon that is now part of the bike trail
Sara with her bike on the bridge overlooking the canyon
Slate in the St. Louis River at Jay Cooke
Cascading water of the St. Louis River
How long this rock will stay standing, nobody knows!
In May we drove over to good 'ole Rogers City
The Lake Huron shoreline
A lighthouse between RC and Mackinaw City
The Mighty Mac - always a welcome sight!
A little interlude here - blossoms on our neighbor's tree
We heard there were some neat waterfalls in Wisconsin, so of course we had to check those out!
First stop: Pattison State Park which also has a pretty little lake
A bridge on the trail to the falls
A panoramic view from the top of the falls
Big Manitou Falls - the tallest in Wisconsin
Falls that are shorter, but still pretty
This crazy guy insisted I take his picture :-)
The forest at Amnicon Falls State Park
The covered bridge at Amnicon Falls
Amnicon Falls - for you geologists out there, the falls go right over a fault between sandstone and basalt
On to the next site.... Wisconsin Point which is the other end of Minnesota Point. Both are sandbars that separate the St. Louis River with Lake Superior
The Wisconsin Point lighthouse
The Wisconsin Point lighthouse with the hills of Duluth in the background
Not only is there a lighthouse, but also a nice sandy beach!
For our anniversary we went to a couple state parks up on the north shore
A beautiful view of the Baptism River at Tettegouche State Park
Another view of the Baptism River. Wonder where you can get some boulders around here - hmm...
High Falls at Tettegouche
Taking a break in the shade
The Baptism River and Lake Superior
A neat rock formation at Temperence River State Park
Another one of those cute bridges spanning a little canyon at Temperance River
Another view of the canyon
The river is flatter upstream
A highway bridge over the river
Temperance River and Lake Superior
