Once we arrived at the park we stopped in at the visitor center, grabbed our maps, purchased our bus tickets, and caught a short documentary in the
IMAX theater. Denali National Park has only one primary road that is closed to personal vehicles for three quarters of its distance. Therefore, most everyone has to ride the park buses to access most of the park.
Quent attempts to load the bus while the girls promptly ignore him and pose for this pictures. Note all our gear piled up in the foreground.
I
believe this is the Savage River area in the eastern edge of the park.
While we waited to pass through the Savage River Checkpoint this Caribou meandered along the side of the road. Once the bus had settled back on all four sets of tires after all the tourists rushed to the north side of the bus, we were able to take a few photos for ourselves.
A view over Sanctuary River from the access road.
Mountains near Sable Pass.
This was taken at the
Toklat River rest area. While we were here we
spotted a brown bear along the river. He quickly became camera shy and moved into the trees before we could get a good shot.
Sara and Pat at the rest stop at Polychrome Pass.
Another view of the Alaskan Range at Polychrome Pass.
Sow bear and her cub.
Another bear further up the road.
Bull moose resting in the grass.
Our campsite at Wonder Lake. We were told Mt. McKinley was somewhere beyond the
clouds. For now we could only imagine.
